The Harris Benedict Formula for basal metabolism

</COMMENT>

Having a greater than 30.0 Body Mass Index, I am always in search of ways to reduce my waistline and, hence, my weight. In the winter of 1999, I saw an ad in a newspaper for The Campitelli Advanced Method For A Flat Abdomen And Thin Waist, by Frank Campitelli and Chef Edward Valente, The Hanford Press, 1995. In an appendix, I found a description of the Harris Benedict Formula for basal metabolism.

The history of the Harris Benedict Formula is not discussed in Campitelli, so I don't know it. The Formula has constants for a basic metabolism, for age, for weight and for height, all related to whether one is male or female. In addition, there are three constants related to low, normal or high activity level. These do not vary by gender.
